On one of my LinkedIn discussion boards today, there was a link to a blog post called “Easy SEO Tips for Authors.” My first reaction was puzzlement. How do you optimize a blog post? What keywords would you use? Even though I have dealt with SEO for years and I do consider myself an author of sorts (I won’t claim full status until I’ve actually gotten published in print.) it had never occurred to me to connect the two.
I read the post with interest and came away thinking I need to make a concentrated effort to use some of his recommendations. I had sort of assumed that a blog post was organically optimized just because the content contained the keywords for the subject matter. I know that WordPress, and probably other blog platforms, has plugins for SEO. However, I have kind of ignored them because I felt they were unnecessary for my type of site.
So, this week I will be experimenting with SEO plugins. Next week, I’ll report on what I’ve found. If you have experience in this area and want to offer advice, leave a comment.

Thanks for sharing the link to my blog, April. My take on this guest post was that you’re in good shape if you know your audience well and provide content that they need, want, and like. So if you’re doing this, you don’t have to worry about the SEO “flavor of the month.” The plug-in that could help the most is one that allows people to share your content, and you’ve got that here.
What I found reassuring was that just getting useful and relevant content on your blog makes a difference. That’s good news!
It’s funny that you say that because I just wrote a post about this very thing on one of my two blogs! You can read it here: http://noscamworkathome.biz/making-money-blogging-identify-keywords/ – for the record: I’m no expert I only can share what I know works for me!
